2020 Election Results in: Joe Biden is President-Elect

The 2020 election has been called for President-Elect Joseph R. Biden. The race was much closer than many democrats had anticipated. Ultimately, as many had predicted, Pennsylvania was the deciding state that put Joe Biden over the 270 electoral votes needed to secure the presidency.

President Trump has yet to concede the race and shows no signs of doing so. The President and his inner circle have peddled claims of widespread voter fraud. The President has mounted multiple legal challenges in battleground states. The President has not disputed election results in the states that he won. The President’s legal team is led by former New York Mayor, Rudy Guiliani. Guiliani and confideonts of the President have taken to the news in recent days to insist that this election is not over. Despite claims of widespread fraud, little has been offered up in proof thus far. In all the states where the President claims fraud has occurred, election officials have assured that there is no widespread voter fraud. These assurances have come from both Democratic and Republican election officials and politicians.

Across the world and the country, many have already accepted Biden’s victory. When the major media outlets projected Biden to win, people took to Time Square and streets not just around America, but around the world, as they rejoiced. Others, who were not so happy, have protested outside state houses and other government buildings insisting that votes were not counted correctly.

Some world leaders, including Candidan Prime Minister Justin Trueadu, have congratulated Joe Biden on his win. Others, such as President Xi of China and Vladamir Putin of Russia are holding back their congratulations as they await to see the outcome of Trump’s legal challenges.

Here at home, the Democratic party says that Trump’s claim of widespread and significant voter fraud is a conspiracy theory. Current Senator and once-Republican-presidential-candidate, Mitt Romney, congratulated Joe Biden on his win. Former President George W. Bush also called and congratulated Joe Biden. In an official statement, the 43rd President assured that he believed the election was fair. Republicans, as a whole, remain split on accepting the results just yet.

In a victory speech Saturday night, Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris rejoiced in being the first woman, african-american and asian-american to be elected to the office of Vice President. After speaking for a few moments, she introduced Joe Biden to an enthusiastic crowd in Delaware, greeted with cheers and horns honking; Joe Biden gave a speech that emphasizes “unity over division.” As he said many times on the campaign trail, Biden said again that he plans to govern as a President for all Americans, not just for the people who voted for him.

President Trump continues to dispute the results of the election as they stand. There is at least one truth in the Republican argument right now: the election is not official. The election’s official results will happen until after the electoral college votes and congress certifies the election. While nothing is impossible, especially in 2020, it seems extremely unlikely that the courts will overturn the results of this election.
