Partnerships with outside companies and organizations give students a great experience and something to put on their resumes, particularly in the field of public relations.
This year, Capital’s Grassroots PR (PR293) has been working on a PR drive for the Home for Families Foundation, in an effort to help get them supplies to properly celebrate a holiday, such as wrapping paper, bows, and boxes and more.
The Home for Families Foundation was only paired with the course for the fall 2020 semester. The goal for this project is to better provide for the families the foundation serves by giving the organization some extra resources for this upcoming holiday season, while providing hands-on experience for the Capital students involved.
The Home for Families Foundation is a non-profit organization, working against homelessness and doing their part to end systemic racism, redlining, and other forms of housing discrimination.
The emailed press release for this event said, “The donation drive will support Home for Families Holiday Store, which benefits families in Columbus who may not have the resources to provide their families the holiday celebrations they wish they could. The Holiday Store is a chance for these families to pick out decorations and toys to provide them with a proper holiday celebration.”
For PR293, the entire class works on the project, but they all have a different role. There are opportunities to gain experience with public relations, working on the website, handling social media, and video production–all to benefit the drive.
Donation bins will be placed at the Student Union, Blackmore Library and the Convergent Media Center. Students and others can drop their donations in the bins from November 1 through November 19, and they will be given to the Home for Families Foundation.
